Target Audience is who would read the newspaper for example who would read the sun or the times. The audiences will be very different for the newspapers as they are two different types of newspapers. Even though the times and the sun are owned by the same company (News UK) they are 2 different types of newspaper.
The Sun
The sun is a tabloid newspaper that is sold for 40p in many shops across the UK. The sun presents many features of a tabloid with the typical stories about celebrities which the target audience like as this newspaper would be more aimed at people who are category E - C1 in the scale.
The data of the sun that I have reviewed reflects the audience that would read the newspaper. As the audience figures show that audience in the DE social Demographic audience is the most popular to read the sun with the figure being 1,556,000 reading the sun in this category with the AB adults being a lot let at 479,000. The data also shows that people class ABC1C2 is 2,760,000 which is odd for this to be so high in the middle of the graph.
The way that people view news is also dictated by age, for example 65+ is the most likely to buy a newspaper because they don't have all the gadgets that the younger audience would have to view the news. 25.9% of the people who by the sun are 65+ with 15 -24 being 10.2%.

The Times
The times is a broadsheet newspaper. That is sold for £1.20 Monday - Friday and then £1.50 on a Saturday. The Times is a more formal newspaper than The Sun. The stories are more related towards business and the target audience of the paper is business men/ woman. The Times is aimed at people who are A-C1 in the social demographic categories.
The data of the times that I have reviewed is that the time times is mainly read by the people in the higher jobs for examples management or office workers, this is because the paper is aimed at. The AB category is 656,000 readers & the DE categorized people is 87,000 this is a huge gab and clearly states the target market, unlike the sun who could be read by all.
The age that view the data is also clear as well. Like The Sun the times is read by 34.1% is read on Print by the 65+. The younger ages show less and would be more towards reading on a computer or mobile tablet/ phone.

Good, you now need to pull out a comparison of the two papers for this criterion You need to compare these two papers; for example you might want to say why the Times markets itself to people of a certain category because of the roles jobs that these people have in society compared to a Sun reader and the role or job that they might undertake. You can then go on in the next part to discuss why it is written in this way in the codes and conventions section.
ReplyDeleteCodes and conventions
For Codes and Conventions discuss newspaper key terms with some reference to the purpose of why they have been made that way, for example both papers have Headlines, and titles in the same place but both are very different.
You need to explain in detail how media products are constructed to appeal to the audiences they are intended for, illustrating points made with well-focused, detailed examples, and drawing out examples precisely that shows the point you are making.
To get a distinction you are trying to comprehensively explain how media producers create products for audiences with elucidated examples and consistently using subject terminology correctly.
