About Adverts & Define
Adverts would be distinguished from other TV programs because it would be featuring a product or service and being described in a different way to a TV show. Images would be of the product or service, usually details of who you can contact or where you could by the product. Normal people featured on the advert, but again could change if the advert needed it to.
Fairy Liquid
Advert Analysis
1960’s Advert -

The advert focuses on how clean the dish is after you have
used the product but also features how safe it is. The product enforces that
the man is not around and that he is at work with the woman staying at home to
look after the children. This is very much how the 1960’s was and advert
clearly shows it. Iconic simple child toys seen in the advert as well as the
iconic washing up liquid bottle. The advert also shows the traditional learning
style with the blocks and shows the child with the woman; however this could be
different in the 2015 advert. The washing up bottle is a iconic item seen in
the adverts and also is quite memorable. Seen in the pictures below.
Both parents seen in this rather than in the 1960’s
advert where the woman is just at home with the daughter. The advert is again
featuring the iconic “Fairy liquid” bottle throughout the advert. Another key
difference between the 2 adverts is in the 2015 one the boy is saying “I’m
bored” which is a key problem in the modern age, in the 1960’s one the girl was
interested and helping mum but the difference is that that the modern advert is
that the boy was bored. Also there is not the stereotype in the
modern advert as certain regulations would disallow it. Style has also
developed massively within the adverts as the modern kitchen has lots of colour
and space with the old colour scheme and pattern.
Vladimier Propp
Vladimer Propp analysed Russian folk tales and then
identified key functions and characters. Propp said that every story had the same
character structure. These are; The villain, The Hero, The Donor, The helper,
The princess, The father, The dispatcher & the false hero. An example of a
program/ film that uses this structure is star wars as I has all of these types
of character.
Tzvetan
Todorov
Todorov’s narrative theory suggests that all narratives
have a three part structure they begin with an equilibrium, something happens that
disrupts the equilibrium and then they reach a resolution and the equilibrium
is restored. An example of this could be Star Wars again as it features where
the empire are in control, battle and then the empire is defeated.
Roland
Barthes
Barthes had 5 narrative codes these are the
Hermeneutic code which is the element of the story that is not explained fully
and is a mystery to the person reader/ viewer.
